Aguada Fort : 18
km. from panjim.
Fort
was built by the Portuguese
in 1609-1612, to control the entry Dutch and Maratha raiders
& to protect the northern shores of the Mandovi estuary.
The fort provided water supply to the ships. The fort is names
as "Aguada" because in Portuguese "Augada"
means water. On the northern side, it provides a harbour for local shipping.

Chapora Fort :
It is 10 km from Mapusa. Chapora fort was built by the

Arvalem caves :
This
Caves were encarved by the traveling Buddhist monks in the 5th
or 6th century AD. Pandavas stayed here during their exile. So
Arvalem Caves also called as Pandavas
Caves.
These caves
have 5 compartments. An inscription
written in Sanskrit and Brahmi characters of the 7th century is noticed on
the Shivalinga with a circular top in cave no. 2.
Sri
Rudreshwar Temple is situated 100m away from the caves.
Arvalem Waterfall is enjoyable during monsoon.
Bom Jesus Basilica
:
It
is best example of Jesuit Architecture. The church's most precious relic is the
embalmed body of St. Francis Xavier entombed in a marble
mausoleum presented by the Duke of Tuscany, who received the
Saint's pillow in exchange. Once every 10 years, the mortal
remains of St. Francis Xavier are exposed for public
veneration.
